Questions people ask

Where do the category scores come from?

Price and renewal come from the plan prices we hold for each host: the long-term monthly price, and how far it jumps after the intro term. Ease, performance, support and room to grow are our editorial estimates on a 1 to 5 scale, based on public information, not lab tests. Reach counts data centre regions; cPanel and email are yes or no.

What do the sliders do?

They set how much each category counts, from 0 (ignore it) to 3 (counts three times). The overall score is the weighted average, out of 100. The presets are starting points; move any slider to make it yours.

When is it a near tie?

When the overall scores are less than 3 points apart. Under 8 points is a slight edge, more is a clear winner. A near tie means either host would serve you; let price or one feature you care about decide.

Do affiliate deals affect the result?

No. The formula is the same for every host and does not know whether we earn a commission. Some Visit buttons are affiliate links.
